Despicable Universal Recruiting New Minions
Universal Orlando Resort’s new Despicable Me ride!
If you were a fan of the 2010 animated film Despicable Me then you’re in for a treat. This week, Universal Orlando Resort announced the official opening for its brand new and much anticipated ride – Despicable Me Minion Mayhem – will be Monday, July 2.
Better still, if you happen to be at the theme park in the meantime, you can be involved in testing the attraction. The ride is currently undergoing ‘technical rehearsal’, and at undisclosed times will open its doors to passing punters to give it a whirl.
The ride ties in nicely with a new sequel to the film, to be released next year. Check out the teaser trailer right here:
So, what is the ride?
To be honest, we’re not entirely sure. We do know it’s a 3-D adventure. It boasts cutting edge animation and features a brand new storyline, presumably picking up where the film left off.
You begin by walking into the home of Gru, the lovable bad guy originally voiced by Steve Carell in the movie, and his adopted daughters. You learn you’ve entered the training program to become new minions, members of Gru’s hysterical little workforce. You don your 3-D ‘minion goggles’, after which you must be scanned for those pesky human germs, naturally, in the Minionization Prep Room. Once prepped, guests enter the Minion Transformation Pods to commence training. Minons strapped in – mayhem ensues.
Universal reveals no more than to say it will be sending guests on a wild and hilarious adventure through Gru’s laboratory culminating, as any good adventure should, with disco. A shimmering mirror ball awaits as guests dance to Boogie Fever with the minions.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem replaces the old Jimmy Neutron ride. Adding to a new roster of attractions including Universal’s Superstar Parade and Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular, Universal Orlando Resort ups the ante against Walt Disney World Resort in Florida’s battle of the theme parks.
