Fat Tuesday at Universal Studios!
Yes, today is Mardi Gras (that’s French for “Fat Tuesday”), a well-loved holiday in America and an opportunity to dance, eat and wear colourful beads.
Whilst British households are serving up mild-mannered pancakes up and down the country, in America celebrations go a step further as participating individuals gear up for the 40 days of Lenton. The Mardi Gras tradition invites revellers to serve up King Cake; a multi-coloured, calorific brioche style pastry that traditionally contains a hidden toy or miniature baby Jesus.
Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana (states with a strong French heritage) have been celebrating Mardi Gras since the 17th century but the holiday has become popular throughout America. Visit Universal Studios in Florida where they have launched a two-month long Mardi Gras celebration which will last until April, 14! The festival includes live musical performances from artists such as Diana Ross and the Goo Goo Dolls and a dazzling carnival parade through the park. Visit the Universal Studios French Quarter where they’re serving up Shrimp Gumbo, Jambalaya and authentic New Orleans live music for that classic Mardi Gras party vibe.
Leave the pancake mix in the cupboard and chase those carnival beads!
