Lake Legends, Kissimmee

Florida has many things to see and also things to do. From Miami to Orlando, it’s full of places known the world over for their sun, sand and anthropomorphic animals. There are some places that don’t always grab the headlines though and one of these is the wonderfully splendid area of Kissimmee, Florida. Not only are you still within visiting distance of SeaWorld, Disney World and Universal Studios you also have a whole load of other assorted wonders to enjoy.

Things like the following :

Visiting  Oldtown

OK, so the name is not that enticing. It is not however, a place where pensioners go to live out the last remaining days of their lives. It is, in fact, a giant shopping district – emporium if you want to use a word no one uses – that boasts 75 specialty stores, 18 amusement rides and some eight restaurants. The Saturday Nite (that’s how they spell it, apparently) Car Cruise from the shopping centre is the oldest car cruise in the country.

Practice you Swing

Florida is something of a golfing paradise. The area is positively overflowing with undulating greens and torturous hazards.  Kissimmee is no different. If you’re looking for challenging courses or are just looking to fine-tune your swing then this is the place for you. There are the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, the ANNIKA Academy and the Golf Academy Celebration which will all help to keep that handicap down.  There are also courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Tom Watson and some guy named Nicklaus.

Save your Money

You don’t always have to spend money when on holiday. Although it is necessary when you want to purchase things. Sometimes you can make the most of the sunny weather and fresh air and bask in the glorious splendour that is free things.  There’s the Sculpture Experience where artists submit their work every year and selected works are then displayed along the streets, the waterfront parks to be enjoyed  and the architecture and casual wonder of Celebration. Nature lovers are also looked after with a host of wildlife areas such as Bull Creek and Triple N Ranch.

Have a Family Day Out

Of course any Floridian holiday would not be complete without a day out with the family at one of the nearby theme parks. There are a few that you might not have heard of too. There’s the excellent Gatorland for all things alligator related, the sheer giddy thrill of airboat rides and a host of other outdoor activities to keep the family entertained. These include horseback rides, bike rides and maybe even some fishing.
